He was an elected State Government Councillor where he served on various committees including Corporate Governance, Business Units and was a member of the Local Government of Queensland Finance committee.  He was also secretary of the North Queensland Sports Foundation.

As Queensland Manager of Wellbeing and Education for the NRL, Murray devised programmes and conducted workshops for mental health awareness and dealt with many traumatic and critical incidents.

Murray was a 25 year Rugby League Coach. He worked at all levels from grass-roots through to the NRL and International arenas.
