Cathy is a Consultant and Adjunct Professor – James Cook University
Cathy graduated from the Townsville College of Advanced Education in 1975 with a Diploma of Teaching and started at St Joseph’s Catholic School in Mount Isa in 1976. She continued teaching for 24 years, a period that included Principalships at Holy Spirit School and Ryan Catholic College. Cathy obtained a Bachelor of Education from James Cook University in 1980 and began a Masters in Educational Administration at Deakin University. She transferred her studies to James Cook University and was invited to upgrade to an Honours Master and subsequently a PhD, which was awarded in 2002. Cathy also holds a Graduate Diploma of Arts (Christian Leadership) from the Australian Catholic University. In 2000 Cathy joined the Townsville Catholic Education Office as Assistant Director School Services, and in 2006 she became Director. This involved leadership and administration at the Diocesan level and collaborative work with all Queensland Catholic Education authorities and the Queensland Catholic Education Commission.
Under her Directorship, the organization created and implemented a world-first Christian Meditation program for all Catholic schools in the Diocese. In 2010, Cathy was invited to present workshops in the United Kingdom and Ireland, sharing her experience of introducing Christian Meditation to children. Since 2010, Cathy has travelled to Europe, Asia and America to present workshops on this initiative.
In 2002 Cathy was awarded the Townsville Corporate Business Woman of the Year and in 2003 was awarded a Churchill Fellowship to study initiatives in rural/remote and aboriginal education in Canada. In 2011 Cathy was presented with a James Cook University Alumni Award. Cathy serves on the Bishop’s Advisory Committee, the
Queensland Catholic Education Commission and the Diocesan Finance Committee. Cathy is passionate about education, the arts and travel.
