Helping Our Community to Flourish

For communities to flourish, individuals must also flourish which requires healthy minds and bodies.

Populations in the tropical regions of Australia are the subject of major stress, trauma and other diseases of the brain and mind. These range from children suffering from various forms of abuse and neglect which can lead to serious physical and mental health issues, to veterans returning from deployment to war zones with post-traumatic stress disorders.

The Foundation will seek and encourage research excellence which investigates diseases of the brain and mind. Research that leads to clinical and therapeutic interventions will be encouraged, particularly for children. Members of the Foundation will establish close links with research institutes such as the Sydney Brain and Mind Institute.

Foundation Vision

The Tropical Brain and Mind Research Foundaiton has two aims:

  • to identify projects that provide the best hope fof ameliorating the effects of such brain and mind disorders;
  • to facilitate financial support for these projects.

These aims are designed to assist those who are suffering brain and mind disorders as well as supporting research to improve such interventions.

At present a particular cluster of projects concerned with foetal alcohol syndrome and autism spectrum disorders is under consideration.

The next cluster of projects to be given priority will address post-traumatic stress disorders.
